Landlords be aware of MuniServices

Landlords if you are unlicensed you should be aware of MuniServices. They are a contract vendor for the District of Columbia (“DC”) Government charged with two requirements. First they are charged with finding Landlords who do not have rental property licenses for their property. Second, they are charged with finding Landlords who have not filed D-30 tax forms to report rental income.

MuniServices bill themselves as Revenue Enhancement Specialist. They have become quite good at finding landlords using Tax Records, Craigslist postings, Postal records, mailing list services as well as MLS records. MuniServices has been mailing out letters on behalf of the District over the last 6 months informing unlicensed Landlords of the law and the need for the license. The District has begun fining these Landlords.

This week alone we have processed over a dozen applications for Landlords who were not compliant with the law.
